Colorful flowers add the glorious vibe entire atmosphere all year round. Especially, in Christmas time the flowers bring life and warmth. Christmas flowers indicate love, resurrection and eternity. Bright red tulips, Poinsettia, Christmas rose, Christmas cactus, Holly berries, and white narcissus, arranged with foliage do exhibit the Christmas vitality in any room. Following is a simple flower arrangement that you and your kids can easily make as centre piece Christmas Decoration.

Material
photo credit: Marit & Toomas Hinnosaar

3 Poinsettia
3 Christmas Rose
1 small Christmas Cactus
12 Holly berries,
4 Pine branches
14-15 Magnolia Leaves
Few Mistletoe leaves and twigs
4-5 Small bottles
1 rectangular wicker basket of medium height for base
Wire net
Few feet gauge Wire
Red ribbon
Scissor
Two dried branches
Few pheasant feathers
Some stones of interesting shape and color
Few sea shells

Collection of Materials

Step 1

You can have the flowers from your own garden or local nursery. The flowers for this particular Christmas Decoration include, Ivy, Mistletoe, Rose, Tulips, Holly, and Poinsettia. Similarly get the foliage. Try to keep the flowers as fresh as possible. So buy them just moments before and put them in some water right after coming home. If you look in your store, there could be some small empty bottles and wicker baskets. Ask the children to join in to collect things like sea shells and stones. Next step is the cleaning of bottles and basket. The list of materials shows you the possibilities; you could add or reduce the things according to your taste and available space in your home.

Making the Base

Step 2

Put water in the bottles, attach the net to the top, and then place them in the basket. For better presentation the bottles should be of lesser height then the basket. Ask the kids to attach the wire gently to the flowers, barriers, feathers, and foliage. This could be interesting thing for them to do. After this you should place them in water in the bottles. However during this process, do not keep the flowers out of water for long time.

Placing of Elements

Step 3

While arranging you must keep shape of a triangle at back of your mind. Start by placing the larger flowers in the centre. And arrange the smaller ones around at symmetrical distance. If you have a Christmas cactus put it next to the flowers carefully. Next thing is to do is placing the foliage, start this by putting the pine branches, two in the upper side and two on the base. Similarly use the dried branches, and then arrange the leaves to fill the space. After this attach the feathers in the empty places. The barriers will look good in group of three so attach them in similar fashion. After first time putting every thing together, if you desire apply a few changes. Soon you will get the final look.

Finalizing the Arrangement

Step 4

The things like sea shells, interesting shaped stones, and similar objects of your choice should be placed around the arrangement. This finishes the flower arrangement. To keep on enjoying these Christmas Decoration flowers for longer period. You should try and look for things getting dried and try to preserve them or replace them as soon as possible.

One burned out light bulb

Acrylic paint- flesh tone and white

Pre-gathered lace of 4 X 12 inch having ribbon holes

Gold wire edge ribbon of 1/8 inch

Curly doll hairs

Iridescent or white glitter

One wooden ball of 1 inch having a hole in it

Paint brushes

Box top

¾ yards of three inch wide iridescent wire edge ribbon

Hot glue gun or tacky glue

Scissors

Black fine tip permanent black marker

Powder blush

Acrylic gloss spray- clear

How to make it-

To make a light bulb stand, take the box top and make a hole in it, large enough to place the screw head of light bulb in it.

Paint your bulb with the acrylic white paint or with spray paint. Let it dry ad then paint the screw head of the light bulb with the same paint. Leave it to dry as well.

Take the wooden ball having holes in it. If holes are not all through it then you can make them by drilling with a small bit. Then paint the ball with the flesh tone acrylic paint and leave it to dry.

To draw the features, use permanent fine black marker and make eyes and nose. For the mouth and cheeks use blush powder and dab three small dots. Make the outline of the mouth in oval shape with the help of black marker.

To protect the blush, just spray small amount of clear gloss.

Take the lace and weave the gold wire edge ribbon through the holes in the pre-gathered lace. Gather the ribbon in.

To make the wings, take three inch ribbon and make a bow with two loops such that the above two loops slightly bigger than the lower ones. Leave about 4 inch tail and tie the bow from the center tightly.

Now to create the hanger, take the 1/8 gold wire edge ribbon nd make a loop of it by folding a 10 inch length into half. Now make a knot about 4 inch below the folded point and dab it with glue. Poke the ribbon from the loop end through the hole in the head and pull it outside. Ensure that the knot will not come outside the hole.

Now all your material is ready just need to assemble it. Take the dress of the angel and tie a knot with weaved ribbon at the top of the screw head leaving 1/3 part of it from top. Hot glue the knot. The side where the knot is made is the back of the angel.

Hot glue the base of the head and place it over the top of the screw head and let it stick.

Now hot glue the wings at the back of the angel at the knot of the woven ribbon. Hold it tightly till it dry. Cut the tails ends in V shape.

Glue the curly hairs on the head by preventing the hanger to get stick.

Spray some clear gloss on the angel’s dress and quickly sprinkle some sparkle or glitter on it. Let it dry for sometime. Your light bulb angel ornament is ready.

Material Required-

Empty plastic coffee creamer container

Scraps of white fur

Scraps of red fabric

Some amount of Fiberfil

Acrylic paints- flesh colored and pink

Paint brushes

Plastic greenery

Sponge

Black marker and black ballpoint pen

Hot glue gun

How to make it- The procedure is very simple. Just follow the steps.

Take the empty creamer bottle and wash it properly. Remove the plastic wrapper from it.

Paint the upper region in the flesh tone acrylic paint. It will be the face of the Santa. Let it dry.

Cut a equilateral triangle i.e. 6 X 6 X 6 inch out of the red fabric. Spread it on the table such that the wrong side is facing up. Now, spread some Fiberfil in the center of the triangle and then fold the triangle in the shape of cone. Glue the edges together. Now, cut a small piece of white fur and glue it at the cone’s tip. The hat is ready.

Hot glue the hat on the top of the creamer bottle and stretch it down to cover the lid of the bottle.

Cut a long strip of white fur and glue it around the hat to form the brim.

To make the Santa’s coat, cut a rectangular piece of red scrap of 15 X 8 inch. Cover the Santa’s body with it and glue it at the back of the Santa.

Cut two strips about 12-14 inch long and glue them as the trim of the jacket. Glue them by starting from the top of the red coat and going all around the body.

To complete the Santa’s face, make beard and features. For beard, use Fiberfil and glue it around the face by beginning from the one end of the hat’s brim to the other end. For features, use black marker to draw the round eye. Draw oval nose with the help of black ballpoint pen.

Dip the sponge into the pink paint and then squeeze it until all paint is gone. Dab this squeezed sponge gently on the Santa’s cheeks. Add a touch of pink paint to Santa’s nose also.

Hot glue some plastic greenery and flowers to the bottom of the creamer bottle to give the finishing touch and your cream bottle Santa is ready.

Cut out a small circle from the center of the above circle. Make sure that the circle you are cutting out should be smaller than the bulb’s socket.

Now, paint the bulb’s socket with black paint with the help of cotton pad. Leave it to dry.

For making the eyes, dip a cotton pad into the blue paint and dab it to make the eyes on the bulb surface.

Dip another cotton pad in black paint; use it to make a point at the center of the bulb surface as the nose.

Now, take a cotton swab and wet it. Dip it first into red paint and then in the white paint so as to give light pinkish color to the swab. Dab it to make two dots for the cheeks one on each side of nose and slightly below it.

Use the toothpick to make a smile with red paint. Dip another toothpick in black paint and use it to make some lines over eyes.

Now, place the hat by stretching its center over the socket and pulling it downwards near the bulb and socket junction and glue it.

Glue the ribbon strip around the socket. At the top of the socket, pinch the ribbon together. Let the glue get dry.

Put some Christmas ornamental scraps on the hat, in the front. It will make it to look attractive and also mask the socket of the light-bulb. Hence, your little snowman is ready.

Bead work can be a joyful activity. If you have some spare time on your hands, beads work is an amazing hobby. There is a very good chance you might be able to make wonderful Christmas Ornaments and gifts such as purses, key chains, frames and many other interesting things. Best thing about beads is that you can always recycle them. So next time if you see some beaded object in the junk sale you should stop and buy it. Buying new beads for beads work projects is always bit expensive. However you can get used beads from junk shops or garage sales for fraction of price. Often there are chances of getting some rare things. But before buying such thing for your Christmas Ornaments, must be careful that you do not buy something you will not use. Here is an easy application of beading technique for beginner.

Classic Net Bracelet

The vertical net can be used to create many interesting Christmas Ornaments. You can make bracelets, bags, lamp shades, Christmas cards, and similar things with this. Following is the process. This is beginner’s design with only two colors beads. The chain is made with golden strings and red knots between.

Material Required

1.	base of white cotton, cut in the shape of bracelet
2.	Button
3.	Size 8 beads – Lighter color, yellow, golden or white
4.	Size 11 beads – Darker color, Pink, Red, blue
5.	Beading Thread
6.	Needles
7.	Scissor

Method

Step 1

Make the back of the bracelet with white cotton or the cloth of your choice. Sew from sides and cut in the middle from the back side and turn it over and iron it.

Step 2

Arrange your materials; the beads must be kept in separate small containers to avoid mixing. It will reduce chances of extra effort on separating the beads. Put a strong beading thread in your needle. It should not be too long as often the long thread gets entangled.

Step 3

Take the first bead of darker color, and then take three lighter color beads. You can increase the number of beads in the outside chain according to your desire. Repeat this process depending upon the length you want. This simplified net needs only four times of the length.

Step 4

String three lighter beads, and then string one darker and then three lighter beads. After this the next step is important. You should string through the darker bead of the first strand. Keep repeating this, once reach on top come back again in the similar pattern.

Step 5

Attach the net created with needle to the back of bracelet. Put the button and make a button hole on the corner with scissor. Sew around it, now your own handmade bracelet is ready, you can gift it as a Christmas Ornament to your loved ones as a token of your love and affection. You can ask your children to join you in making these Christmas decorations. All of you will enjoy quality family time together.
